Question: Can Raccoon roundworms infect your pet and you? |
YES! |
WHAT IS THIS?
This is a roundworm (Toxocara canis) larval migrans that has made it’s way to a child's eye. Exposure to roundworm has been shown in 17% of children in the Halifax area. Infection with roundworm in humans can cause eye disease with inflammation and formation of a scar on the retina that may lead to permanent partial loss of vision. |

Parasites! EEEWW! |
Tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, heartworms, raccoon roundworm, whipworm, fleas, ticks—and yet we still love our pets. So, how do we protect ourselves and them from these invasive parasites? The answer is year round monthly de-worming and flea control. At the Colby Village Veterinary Hospital we can tailor your pet’s flea and worm control to your pet’s specific needs based on their activity level and chance of exposure. Call us to get more details about the products we carry.
